Ballad, Broadside, Broadside Ballad & Folk Music Indexes
Broadsides were early posters which advertised events, made proclamations or public commentary.
A broadside could also be a printed ballad (narrative song), poem, et al, that might sell for a penny.
Broadsides preceded printing but generally refer to either black letter or white letter typesets.
Black letter refers to type from Gutenberg (c 1440) to c 1700. White letter refers to roman type circa 1700 onward.
