Major Early Record Labels

The two behemoths of cylinder recording were Edison and Columbia.

Columbia abandoned the cylinder market in 1912. Edison carried on to the last until 1929.

Disc recording began with Berliner which merged with Victor (HMV in the UK) in 1901.

The three largest companies when electric recording began (1924-25) were Columbia, Victor and Brunswick.

Edison issued its last Diamond Disc in 1929, the same year Victor became RCA Victor.
